Easter - Berlin

How time flies.. I thought it's just been a couple of days since April but wow, it's already the end of June! Last Easter was London and this year it's Berlin.

Berlin lies about 400 km south of Copenhagen.. we drove and 'ferried' to Berlin via Rostock. It was a good trip and didn't even get lost. Thanks to our handy little helper, Mr. GPS. We even did 160 km/h on the German autobahn in our little scoda. The poor thing started to rattle quite a bit after 140 km/h.. Well, at least now we know her limit!!

We liked Berlin! It is such a vibrant and dynamic city. A city very quickly reinventing itself to a modern, hip and sexy cultural centre. Thanks to ILVA (long story).. we were able book a very good hotel at the Berlin district of District Tempelhof-Schöneberg... next to Kurfürstendamm (KaDeWe), claimed to be Europe's largest department store! :-)

There were absolutely hundred of things to do in Berlin but since we only had 4 days, we decided to just relax and limit our scope.. here were a few items on our list..

  • The 'federal belt'.. parliament, angie's house, golden victory skirting around the Tiergarten park
  • The Brandenburg gate, Berlin's only remaining city gate, symbolising the previous division of the city and was reopened at the end of 1989 after the fall of the wall.
  • Checkpoint Charlie, where prisoner exchange was done during the Cold War.. here I realised suddenly that my knowledge in European history was minuscule!
  • Postdamer pladtz (Sony centre).. cool and very techie place indeed. Loved the architecture!
  • Berggruen museum - Picasso, Henry Matisse.. love these cubist!
  • The blue mans room - 3 blue-faced man miming and making music.. absolutely hilarious!
Also caught up with our dear friend, Lina, who was gracious enough to take us around... showed us the best place to eat Sushi and the infamous German curry sausage! Thanks a million Lina :)'

We had a great time! Highly recommended!
